Initial Contact & Information Exchange

Upon initial contact, typically by email or phone, information will be exchanged to determine if there is a match between the youth’s needs and our treatment program. If it appears the potential client meets the eligibility criteria and could benefit from our program, we will send the referral and intake forms to the referring agent for completion.

Pre-Screening Interview

Once our Intake Coordinator receives a completed referral package, closer to the intake date, a pre-screening interview is arranged with the youth conducted by our Clinical Lead. The pre-screening helps us access specific needs, required supports, feelings about attending treatment, and motivation to join our healing lodge program.

Virtual Pre-Treatment Sessions

Virtual pre-treatment sessions are offered to youth who may not be ready to do in-person programming or who are on waitlist.

Eligibility Review

After the pre-screening interview is complete and all required documents have been submitted to the Intake Coordinator, each application undergoes a thorough review by our Treatment Team. We assess whether the youth meets our eligibility criteria, if they would benefit from our treatment program, and if our healing lodge can adequately meet their needs.

Acceptance and Admission

If the youth is deemed a good candidate for our treatment program by the Treatment Team, the Intake Coordinator will email the point of contact, providing them with an acceptance letter and details about the youth’s upcoming admission to Wakenagun.

Travel Assistance

If travel assistance is needed, our Intake Coordinator will assist the youth and their guardian/referral source in arranging transportation to the healing lodge, typically through Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).

Ineligibility and Waitlisting

If the youth does not meet the eligibility criteria for our treatment program, our Intake Coordinator will provide the point of contact with an explanation for the decision. In some cases, these youths may be waitlisted to allow them more time to prepare for residential treatment. If it is determined that the youth requires more intensive services beyond what Wakenagun can offer, our Intake Coordinator will provide support in finding alternate treatment programs that may better suit their needs.
